Commonly Asked Questions
What happens after I sign up?
Once you sign up, your WordPress developer will be in direct contact with you the next business day via email to provide access to our project management system, and to arrange an optional introductory video call.
You can instantly get started and prioritize as many requests as you like in our project management system. As soon as you give the go-ahead, your developer will begin work on your first task.
What hours will my developer work?
We maintain regular US Pacific Coast time (PT) business hours, which is 9am to 5pm, Mon to Fri. We do not work on US federal holidays.
While we are open to working with international clients, we can only maintain US PT business hours at this time.
During these hours your request queue will be worked on and you are more than welcome to send us a slack chat or arrange a video call.
What does “Unlimited” Requests Mean?
Unlimited Requests means that you can add and prioritize as many tasks as you like to our online project management system. Your WordPress developer will work on each task one at a time as per the priority you have set.
Your developer will only ever work on one task at a time and will only move on to the next task in the queue while you are reviewing or have approved previous work.
If you need adjustments to work you have reviewed, the developer will pause any other work to address your feedback.
What does “Unlimited Sites & Projects” Mean?
This means that as a client you can get us to work on tasks for as many different WordPress web sites as you own. Our focus is on your request queue, no matter what website or project it is for.
What is an “Active Request”?
Your developer will only work on one task at a time, which we call an “Active Request”. Once a task is in review or has been approved, your developer will move on to the next task in the queue.
If you need edits to a task you have reviewed, your developer will pause work on any other task to address your feedback.
How much work can I realistically expect my developer to deliver each month?
As you may be fully aware, web development tasks can range in scope from the smallest debugging issue to the most complex multi-page site build out. In addition clients need time to review, and the larger the company, the more stakeholders may need to review the work. So while it is not possible for us to say how many tasks we can complete for your unique situation in a given month, we do stand by one commitment… you will receive communication from us every 2 business days in the form of either a deliverable for you to review, a status update on any blockers, or an estimate of how long we think your task is going to take to complete.
You may also book a call with us before you sign up to discuss your unique situation.
What kind of WordPress development solutions can you provide?
Everything! We have been developing on the WordPress platform for over 15 years and have experienced every scenario you could imagine, along with adapting to all the updates and changes that has happened to the WordPress core software over time.
Here are a selection of common requests that we work on…
- Creating a new WordPress site installation
- Custom classic theme development
- Custom block theme development
- WordPress theme customizations
- Custom plugin development
- Debugging plugin conflicts
- Design & development of new landing pages
- Large site migrations to new hosting providers
- Site migrations from other platforms to WordPress
- WooCommerce setup and management
- Custom functionality and API integrations
- Technical SEO audits and fixes
- Accessibility audits and fixes
- Answering general WordPress technical and support questions
- Figma to custom WordPress theme
- WebFlow to custom WordPress theme
What tools and software do you use?
- We develop in HTML, CSS, PHP and Javascript
- For project management we use monday.com
- For file sharing we use DropBox
- For code versioning we use a private GitHub repository for each client site.
- For design we use Figma and Photoshop
- For instant chat we use Slack
- For video calls we use Zoom
- For managing billing and your monthly subscription we use Stripe
On Press covers the cost and management of all these tools, as part of your monthly subscription.
If you would prefer to use a different tool, platform or piece of software let us know and we can adjust to work in the way that suits you best.
Who is On Press For?
The services we offer at On Press are best suited for entrepreneurs, start-ups, small businesses, creative agencies, and large enterprise organizations, where WordPress has become a critical tool for marketing, communications or sales.
If you are an individual just getting started on WordPress, you may be better served by our free learning resources.
Why wouldn’t I just hire a freelancer or full-time employee?
Some clients prefer to work with a WordPress developer on an hourly or full-time basis, or in person, and that is understandable. On Press however offers a number of unique advantages over that approach…
- Cost – Developer’s these days cost a lot! Experienced freelancer’s and agencies can charge hundreds per hour, and hundreds of thousands per year. On Press charges the same flat rate fee every month, which is still considerably lower than a freelancer, agency or full-time employee.
- Hiring – With On Press you don’t have to do any hiring or vetting of candidates. Just sign up to a plan and we’ll get started on your projects.
- Reliability – Even if you have felt you have vetted your candidate throughly, there are times when you can be let down by poor communication, lack of productivity or even worse, low quality work. On top of that your freelancer or employee could quit on you at any time. On Press is here for you as long as you need us, and we will never quit on you.
- Flexibility – If you find that you no longer need the services of a WordPress developer, you can downgrade, pause or cancel your account with us any time. If in the future you need us again, you can come back and work with the same developer again.
Can you sign an NDA?
If you need us to sign an NDA (non disclosure agreement) or any other confidentiality agreement, we can certainly do so. You can indicate this by responding to your developer’s introductory email, before you add any tasks or details to our project management system.
Do you offer refunds?
Unfortunately due to the nature of time spent working on custom development tasks, we are unable to offer refunds. But we know life happens and are open to discussion. If you have any questions or concerns about your subscription please reach out to jay@onpress.dev
What happens when I pause or cancel my subscription?
To pause or cancel your subscription, you can login to your account here, and select the option to “Cancel” your plan. If you decide to renew again later, you can login at the same link to renew your subscription.
Our billing cycle lasts for 1 month. So if you cancel your account in the middle of the month, you can still use our services until the month comes to an end.
When you cancel your subscription your request queue will be archived and you will no longer be able to access it. If you renew your subscription at a later date we will unarchive your request queue and you’ll be able to continue where you left off.
If you do not re-subscribe within 1 year from the date of your cancellation, your request queue will be permanently deleted from our system.
Who is on your team? Do you outsource the work?
On Press is managed on a daily basis by veteran British designer and developer Jay Purcell.
We are US based (Seattle, Washington) and have a private network of trusted WordPress developers who we have worked with for multiple years.
In the interests of expediency, we may assign some of your tasks to other developers in our network (unless you specifically ask us not to). However, all of your tasks will be managed by your lead developer Jay who manages every task and reviews all code and work before it is passed on to you for review or deployed to your site. This ensures a high level of quality control, as well as ensuring our work resolves the initial client request.
Our unique subscription model pricing allows us to keep overheads low and our team small. We also only work with a select number of clients each year, so we can avoid being overwhelmed and provide a level of focus for our clients projects.
